Little Free Libraries
Hundreds of free book-sharing boxes are popping up around the country, why not in Horicon?
The first Little Library built by our group is located in Kiwanis Park, and four others will be added at River Bend, Bowling Green, Discher, and Whitty Parks. The locations will be entered on Littlefreelibrary.org. Several Little Libraries already exist in Horicon; lets build more!
Playground Equipment Project
The playground areas in River Bend Park are in need of repair and modernizing. In addition, there are no toddler-friendly play structures in River Bend Park. Our plan is to upgrade the swings replace teeter totters, and add a new playground structure to the main playground area. Ina addition to that, we’ll develop a “toddler park” that’s friendly for smaller children. Our plans include to make as many areas as possible handicap-accessible and safer for our children. All new pieces of equipment will meet Federal guidelines for accessibility. The project fundraising goal is $50,000.
Gold Star Memorial Trail
The proposed Gold Star Memorial Trail will provide a safe, off-road, non-motorized trail connection between the Mayville and Beaver Dam, WI. The trail would be a 10’ wide, 2.1 mile long asphalt surfaced path within the road right of way for year-round hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing. The Gold Star Memorial Trail will be a memorial to the Dodge County military service members who have been killed in action – honoring a request on behalf of Dodge County Gold Star families.
This is a local citizen-led effort working through Friends of Dodge County Parks, Inc., a non-profit organization with support from the County Land Resources & Parks Department as the expected future administrator/operator of the path.
The Horicon Phoenix Program will support the Horicon segment of this project via fundraisers and raising community awareness.
